Anyone seen one with an ipod dock?
I remember years ago, I really wanted the sony talking radio/alarm/cd, it also had those natures sounds. Geez, it was well over $100, crazy to me!
I think that was the Sony Dream Machine. I'm resurrecting this topic because I too am in the market for a good, accessible clock radion, preferably one with the option of using a specific track on a CD for one of the options for an alarm. I know the DEream Machine could do that and best of all it had what I thought to be a very high quality voice synthesizer making it very nearly completely accessible. Even if it didn't speak for each button press you could usually manage to find out how things were set up and change them. I do have a little clock radio I ordered from MaxiAids but it picks up very few stations and the only other alarm options are extremely annoying. Think I'll find whoever came up with the idea of a rooster crow, which I might add has never sounded convincing to me, as a viable option for our alarm clocks and watches, and beat him up with a rubber hose...or maybe even one of those foam baseball bats. I thought about calling Sony and finding out if the Dream Machine could even still be purchased. I don't know of any other modesl that have the flexibility I want and I'd rather not go with a model specifically designed for us blind folks. All I really know for sure is I'm getting sick and tired of waking up to my damn cell phone every morning. Be nice to wake up to some cool tunes instead.
For me, it depends on the model of the cell phone. If it is accessible, then that is a cool option. Most of them you can select any of your songs as a alarm sound.
I have the Dream Machine and like it. The best thing about it is that you can go backwards when setting the time or alarm time. In other words, if you have it set for 6:00 and want to get up five minutes earlier one day, instead of hitting the minute button 55 times, you hit the back button five times.
I wonder if you can still buy it anywhere? I found it on Amazon.com but they were used and I've always been rather leery about used electronics. It'll be more expensive I know, but I'd spend the extra money to be more sure of quality. I remember seeing a segment on Main Menu about it some years back but the URL for the web site the podcaster gave is apparently no longer valid.
My wife gave me the Dream Machine years ago. I like it also. When our cat was younger, he'd march on the talk button when he wanted his breakfast. I'd wake up to "it's four, it's four, it's four..." Always in a perfect cadence. Not that I was agrivated, but he must have about a million lives.
Lou
LOL Lou, that's funny. My cat walks on my talking scale all the time, but he's never walked on the radio.
I wish I could remember where I got the Dream Machine from. It was modified for the blind and came with cassette instructions. It might have been Ann Morris Enterprises which sold out to Independent Living Aids.
Ah I see. I'll have to look into that.
Mine was from Independent Living Aids.
What's the address? It may be a long shot since I don't even know if the Dream Machine is still even available, but it's worth looking into.
I believe it is independentliving.com
Ah I see. If that's the case then they no longer sell the unit. Pity too, since it's the only one I've ever come across that had all the features I would want.
